Local help has been given to the evacuees of Hurricane Irma. Evacuees of Hurricane Irma had been staying in the Daphne Wal-Mart parking lot.

Locals brought food for the evacuees so they would have something to eat, as they are away from home possibly without money.

“I received a message over Facebook from a friend asking if I was interested in helping feed the Florida evacuees,” Daphne resident Teala Pattison said, “multiple families who were staying in RV’s and local hotels came to receive a meal.”

According to Teala many families showed to take care of these families. Ashley Hopkins started the activity.

“It occurred to me Friday night that there were thousands of people in our area who might lose everything they had. I felt like our community should reach out to them. I reached out to people through the NextDoor app and on Facebook and asked if anyone would be willing to help,” Ashley Hopkins said, “this was a very thoughtful act towards the evacuees and I hope they get even more help.”
