Spring Break Hacks
March 16, 2018
Whether you are going to the beach or just going to chill in your bed and binge watch Netflix, there is something we all can do this Spring Break that could be memorable, fun, and safe. One thing that you might count as fun is going to the beach. This is very common amongst the people of Baldwin County and the surrounding areas because the beach is only about 45 minutes away. The beach can be fun but if your not careful it could be dangerous, so if you are going to the beach make sure you plan to bring a lot of water and sunscreen. If you don’t drink enough water then you could get dehydrated and according to Kami Whorton a Certified and registered Nurse Practitioner “Water is not important just for hydration. It helps energize muscles. It also maintains fluid and electrolyte balance.” Sunscreen is very valuable to you having health non-cancerous skin. According Whorton “ sunscreen protects your skin from harmful rays from the sun. There are two types of rays from the sun: UVA and UVB. Sunscreen prevents the rays from causing skin cancer. All people should wear sunscreen outside regardless of skin color.” Bring lots water and sunscreen and your just might enjoy the beach a little more.
It’s important to read the beach warning flags and more importantly know what they mean. According to Gulf Shores and Orange Beaches Website there are five warning flags, the green flag means low hazard, the yellow flag means medium hazard, the purple flag means hazardous wildlife, the red flag means High hazard, the double red flag means Water closed to public.
If you go to the beach on a purple flag then you might get stung by a jellyfish, If you get stung it itches and hurts and could ruin your beach trip in order to avoid that itchy feeling you can rub meat tenderizer on the itchy spot. Meat tenderizer has a enzyme called papain that will break down the venom found in the jellyfish proteins.
In order to keep all of that unwanted sand off of you, you can rub baby powder on your hands and feet and the sand will fall off. Baby powder strips the moisture from your body so all of that unwanted sand will just fall off.
If you are scared that your belongings will be stolen you can put your belongings in a dipper. You can also put your phone in a ziplock bag so you don’t get sand or water in your phone. So next time go to the beach don’t forget to bring your dippers and meat tenderizer.
If you don’t like the beach and you want to be lazy this spring break, netflix could be your best friend, however If you get on netflix and don’t know what to watch here’s a list from Daphne High School students and their reviews of shows and movies to watch.
“My favorite show is the office because it is funny and there are a bunch of episodes to watch.” Said Bella Petruzelli
