On August 21, 2023, sophomores Ella Lomax, Charlotte Mekkers, and AG Carson were named volleyball Pre-Season Players to Watch. The players showed true potential all throughout the pre-season.
Ella Lomax is an outside hitter who besides playing for Daphne High School plays on the 15 National Black team at Lower Alabama Volleyball. Lomax also plays beach volleyball for US Juniors Beach. She held the second highest kills, aces, and digs on the Daphne team last year. She described herself on sportsrecruit.com as dedicated, and self-motivated. Lomax said, “I have loved playing with my best friends, learning from new people and coaches, and playing the game I love with people I love.”
Charlotte Mekkers played her freshman year and pre-season as a middle blocker. Middle blockers hit mostly fast-tempo sets from the middle of the court and behind the setter. Mekkers ranked thirty fourth in the state her freshman year. “I am very happy and proud of Ella and AG who were chosen with me and am very excited for this season and to see how it goes,” Mekkers said.
AG Carson was MVP of the freshman team and team captain last year, helping lead the freshman team to winning the all county freshman team title. Carson said, “This is my first year on varsity, and I am so excited to play and grow to become the best player and teammate I can be!”
