AP Testing

Brooke Gilbert, Editor

Have you ever wondered what AP testing is? It stands for advanced placement and there are examinations taken each May by students at participating American, Canadian, and international educational institutions. The tests are the culmination of year-long Advanced Placement courses. There are fees you have to pay to take them. AP exams combine multiple-choice questions with a free-response section in either essay or problem-solving format. The exams themselves are not tests of the students mastery in the course.

Colleges and universities in the U.S.  grant credits for test scores. For example you can get a GPA boost. Some people take the AP exams just for that reason.

Students are not required to take these tests, but they are recommended by many teachers and parents. AP testing is for all grade levels in high school. The faculty is responsible for notifying students when and where to report for the exams.

Many students take this just to boost their GPA. “I’m taking the AP test to better my academics and to get the .5 GPA boost” said Holden Pope a Sophomore at Daphne High School.
